Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is linked to contact with asbestos. Most people who get mesothelioma do not live past 25 months. Jon Matthews was diagnosed with this terminal illness back in 2006, and so he began to prepare for the end. After settling his accounts, paying for the funeral, Jon Matthews was not about to give up.

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease where the cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and start to divide without order or control. They begin to invade and damage nearby organs and tissues. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
Researches at Johns Hopkins University have found an active receptor that is found in certain pancreatic cancers that might offer hope for treatment. A third of human pancreatic cancers contained a malfunctioning phosophorylated epidermal growth factor receptor (pEGFR).

In previous studies it had been noted as being active in some lung cancers. In a news release from Experimental Biology 2009, when mice with this type of pancreatic cancer were given an EGFR-inhibitor the pancreatic tumors shrank.
Skin cancer has overtaken cervical cancer as the top cancer striking women in their 20s in the UK. Melanoma is the deadliest kind of skin cancer and now the most common cancer in young British women. Although women in their 20s make up a small percentage of all patients diagnosed with melanoma in Britain, nearly a third of all cases occur in people younger than 50. Rates of skin cancer are typically highest in people over age 75. Since younger people are not generally those most susceptible to melanoma, this new trend is particularly worrying.
Experts attribute these rising numbers to the surge in people using tanning salons. Spending time on a sunbed is just as dangerous as staying out too long in the sun. In fact the intensity of UV rays in some sunbeds can be more than 10 times stronger than the midday sun.
